Tooling Engineer

The Tooling Engineer serves as a key technical resource within the organization, supporting Engineering, Program Management, and Production in the design, development, fabrication, maintenance, and documentation of molds and tooling. This role is responsible for designing and fabricating tooling and fixtures, integrating design changes, coordinating external vendor services, and ensuring that all mold-related activities meet quality and ISO standards. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Program Management, Engineering, Customers, and Production to define mold and tooling requirements. 
  • Support Engineering in the construction, modification, and verification of molds and tooling, providing reports as necessary. 
  • Manage the integration of part design changes into corresponding molds. 
  • Oversee tooling follow-up activities and ensure tools are fully prepared and approved for production release. 
  • Develop and maintain detailed mold maintenance procedures and schedules. 
  • Design and fabricate tooling and fixtures as needed to support manufacturing and development efforts. 
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of all mold repairs, changes, and related activities. 
  • Participate in root cause analyses and implement corrective actions where required. 
  • Adhere to all ISO procedures, documentation requirements, and quality standards. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 


Job Qualifications:

  • Journeyman license with a minimum of 10 years of mold-making or tool-making experience. 
  • Strong aptitude in mathematics and computer applications. 
  • High attention to detail with effective communication skills. 
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D engineering drawings. 
  • General proficiency with 3D design software. 
  • Skilled in the use of mold-making and machining tools, including metal saws, mills, grinders, lathes, EDM sinkers, EDM wire machines, EDM hole burners, and CNC mills. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience designing and programming with Mastercam and/or SolidWorks. 
  • Ability to program NC equipment and develop accurate tool paths. 

Physical requirements:

This role requires regular on-site work in a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, operate machining equipment, and use hand tools.
