Optical Design
Complete optical and mechanical design services with integrated opto-mechanical solutions using advanced design programs for imaging and illumination systems.
Apollo Optical Systems delivers precision polymer optics manufacturing with end-to-end capabilities from design to production. With over two decades of proven expertise, we accelerate time-to-market while ensuring performance with precision and consistency for medical, defense, automotive, and industrial applications worldwide. An optical products manufacturer must deliver geometric precision, surface fidelity, material stability, coating durability, and repeatable production performance across temperature, time, and volume. Polymer enables scalable, integrated optical solutions. But success depends on understanding material behavior, controlling manufacturing variables, validating environmental stability, and maintaining disciplined production processes. Optical performance is defined in design. Reliability is defined in production.

Apollo Optical Systems was born from innovation and academic excellence, originating as a spin-off from the University of Rochester's prestigious Institute of Optics in 1989. Founded by leading optical scientists Dr. G. Michael Morris, Dr. Dean Faklis, and Dr. Milton Chang, our company has dedicated over two decades to advancing precision optical technologies. Through strategic partnerships with government programs and commercial collaborations, we've evolved from pioneering research into practical, commercially viable optical solutions. Today, operating from our state-of-the-art 21,000 sq. ft. facility in Rochester, NY, we continue to push the boundaries of optical manufacturing while maintaining our commitment to precision, innovation, and partnership-driven success.
We specialize in precision polymer optics including Acrylic (PMMA), Polystyrene, Zeonex, Zeonor, and Ultem, as well as metals like Nickel, Brass, Copper, and Aluminum for diamond turning applications. Optical components must control light transmission, beam shape, focal geometry, surface fidelity, and dimensional stability. Small variation in geometry or surface quality can alter optical performance measurably. Optical manufacturing requires tighter integration between design, material behavior, and process control than most molded or machined parts.
