Optical Design & Engineering
Advanced optical and mechanical design services using ZEMAX, CODE V, and OSLO for integrated AR opto-mechanical solutions with thorough tolerance analysis and design verification.
Transform your AR vision into reality with Apollo Optical Systems' comprehensive optics design and implementation services. From precision optical design and diffractive elements to advanced polymer manufacturing and coating solutions, we deliver end-to-end capabilities that accelerate time-to-market for cutting-edge augmented reality applications. Augmented reality optics are not about chasing ideal optical performance. They are about balancing perception, physics, materials, and manufacturing within extremely tight constraints. Successful AR systems come from realistic optical expectations, material-aware design, disciplined fabrication processes, and validation that reflects real use. Augmented reality optics succeed when system-level thinking replaces component-level optimism, manufacturing realities are addressed early, tolerances are intentional and justified, and performance is validated over time and scale. When those conditions are met, AR optics move from impressive demos to reliable products.

Founded through a management buyout in 2002, Apollo Optical Systems carries forward the innovation legacy of Rochester Photonics Corporation, originally spun off from the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics in 1989. Our team of scientists and engineers brings decades of experience in advancing precision optical technologies through government programs and commercial partnerships. Today, we operate from a state-of-the-art 21,000 sq. ft. facility in Rochester, NY, continuing our mission to transform emerging optical technologies from research concepts into widespread commercial applications.
We manufacture a complete range of AR optical components including precision lenses, diffractive elements, microlens arrays, anti-reflective coatings, and complex multi-element assemblies from design through production. Augmented reality (AR) optics are not a single optical component. They are optical systems designed to inject virtual imagery into a user's field of view, preserve transparency to the real world, maintain alignment, brightness, and color consistency, and remain stable across motion, temperature, and time. AR optics sit at the intersection of optics, materials science, manufacturing, and human perception. Success depends on managing all four simultaneously.
