Apollo Optical Systems builds on a deep legacy in precision optics innovation. Its roots trace to Rochester Photonics Corporation, founded in 1989 as a spin-off from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics to bring diffractive and micro-optics into commercial use. When Corning closed its Rochester Photonics operation in 2002, Dr. G. Michael Morris led a management buyout that established Apollo Optical Systems on December 31, 2002. Today, Apollo operates from a 21,000-square-foot Rochester, NY facility with advanced manufacturing capabilities. The team combines optical and mechanical engineering with fabrication, coatings, assembly, and metrology to help customers manage complexity, verify performance, and create scalable precision polymer optics for demanding applications.
