Automotive driver-monitoring camera optics

Our DMS Camera Windows and Cover Optics Services

Integrated optical engineering and manufacturing support for protective, performance-focused driver-monitoring camera components.

Optical Mechanical Design

Integrated optical and mechanical design aligns imaging requirements, package constraints, materials, and manufacturability for DMS camera windows and cover optics from the start.

Anti-Reflective Coatings

Thin-film anti-reflective coatings reduce unwanted surface reflections across selected wavelengths, helping camera systems capture clearer images through protective optical surfaces.

Diamond-Turned Prototypes

Single-point diamond turning produces custom optical prototypes and complex surfaces in plastics or metals, supporting early evaluation before production tooling is finalized.

Optical Injection Molding

Injection molding creates consistent polymer optical components for low- or high-volume programs, with options for spherical, aspheric, Fresnel, diffractive, and custom surfaces.

Metrology and Testing

In-house metrology measures critical mechanical and optical parameters, including surface form, roughness, topography, and retardation, to verify component performance against requirements.

Optical Assembly

Assembly capabilities support bonded, air-spaced, multi-element, and hybrid optical systems, from one-off prototypes through automated high-volume production approaches.

Integrated Optical Manufacturing

Protective Optics Built for Clear Sensing

DMS camera windows and cover optics must do more than shield a camera: they need to preserve image quality while fitting demanding automotive packages. Apollo Optical Systems helps balance material selection, optical geometry, coating performance, tolerances, and production methods in one development path. Our capabilities support prototypes through scalable manufacturing, helping teams reduce avoidable handoffs and bring robust driver-monitoring optical components to market with confidence.

Meet the Apollo Team

Precision optics specialists focused on practical, scalable solutions.

Apollo Optical Systems brings a long legacy of precision optics innovation to complex component programs. Our roots trace to Rochester Photonics Corporation, founded in 1989 as a spin-off from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics. When Corning closed Corning Rochester Photonics Corporation in 2002, Dr. G. Michael Morris led a management buyout that established Apollo Optical Systems on December 31, 2002. Today, our Rochester, NY facility combines optical and mechanical design with diamond turning, polymer injection molding, coatings, assembly, and metrology. We work to turn demanding optical requirements into manufacturable components, helping customers manage complexity, protect performance, and pursue cost-effective paths from development through production.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a driver monitoring system (DMS)?

A driver monitoring system is an in-vehicle sensing system designed to observe driver attention, head position, eye direction, or signs of distraction and fatigue. It commonly uses an interior-facing camera, illumination, processing software, and protective optical components. The camera window or cover optic must protect the sensor while managing reflections, transmission, distortion, and mechanical integration.
