Apollo Optical Systems was established on December 31, 2002 through a management buyout that continued the legacy of Rochester Photonics Corporation. That legacy began in 1989 as a University of Rochester Institute of Optics spin-off founded to bring diffractive and micro-optics from research into commercial use.
